My babyhood

Guide Dogs for the Blind has added some new things that has allowed my mom to see my birth mom and dad and me when I was just a wee little thing!

Going to Work

Now that I have all my shots I get to go to work with mom. She tells me she is going to start me out slowly and now after my first day I know why!

I have to sit under mom's computer desk area. Not really a problem except she works at a vet. There are dogs and cats coming in and out. All I hear is barking, whining, meowing, and screeching! Some of those animals are very over dramatic, I didn't mind seeing the doctor but I hear them complaining the whole time! Boo hoo! But trying to sit still and not talk to them too or even go see them is really hard work. When mommy is sitting with me I do very well, but she never told me she is up and down like a carousel ride! She is so busy. So I thought I'd get up and down too but she told me I can't do that. So I learned to behave and just lay there like a good girl. She did bring some toys for me that helped keep me busy. After 5 hours of trying really hard to behave (and doing really well at it!) I finally fell asleep. Mom only took me for half day so I got to go home and sleep afterwards. She also said she was really proud of me for not tinkling at work. I was able to hold it till mommy told me to do my business. I am excited to go again!

Snow Day

My mom took me on a long car ride again. We took some friends with us in the car so at least someone sat close to me! We got out of the car and there was some white fluffy cold stuff! It was amazing. I was romping and playing in it. Mom let me get a little silly. I had so much fun in it. I got to jump in it, eat it, and run in it. I wish I had this stuff all the time! Some other dogs got to go with us. Some loved it just like me! There was another golden retriever there, his name is Seifkin. He loved the snow just like me. I got to play with him a little bit. He is around my size too so that was really fun. Here is me in the snow!

Then, after our snow day we went to a restaurant. Mom really pushed me to my limit! I was already tired and now she brought me to this place where there was a lot of hustle and bustle and then food on top of it! Then she also made me lay next to Russel (another puppy in training). Man it was hard work but mom says I did really well. I tried so hard. I was so tired after it all. This is a picture of me at the restaurant, my first outing in public!

So after a long day and a long car ride home, I slept very well in my kennel! I can't wait to visit the snow again though. I think seeing it everyday would be awesome!

Merry Christmas

Look! Its me with that weird man I was talking about!

Well we have been all very busy these last few weeks. We had a day called Christmas which was really fun. I got some new toys that are really fun. Then we got to go to another house and they had a yard I could run in! I pooped myself out! It was so much fun just to run back and forth in the yard.

Then I got some more shots. I was such a good girl for my exam. I weighed 27.6lbs! I am getting so big. My mom laughs at me because I have a "ridge" on my back. My fur forms a ridge all the way from my neck to my tail. Mom says I am free now which means I get to start going more places. That will be so exciting. She says we even get to go on walks. I should get to go to mommy's work soon too.

I can't stop leaving my other furry brother alone. I just want to play and bite on him all day...he reminds me of my brothers and sisters I was born with!

Well off to my kennel again. Mom has to go back to work. I will let you know my next adventure soon. I can't wait. My mom says it might even be this weekend!!!

This weekend

Oh my! I had a very busy weekend. Starting on Thursday my mom took me to a place. She called it a guide dog meeting. There were dogs EVERYWHERE! I was so overwhelmed. Hi, Hi, Hi is all I could think. I just wanted to say hi to all these dogs! Mom wouldn't let me though. We had to do some puppy handling. It was somewhat calming but I didn't want to do it long. I wanted to PLAY! Then my mom gave me to some strange lady. She was just touching and pushing me around. I was getting a little stressed. Then she calmed down and so did I. Things were better.

The meeting was over and my mom carried me outside. Then this water was dripping on me. It wasn't bath time? It was falling from the big blue thing above me. My mom started singing "its raining, its raining" She thought it was cool, so it didn't bother me too much. We went home.

Then on Saturday my mom took me to another what I think was a guide dog meeting. There were lots of dogs again. Except this time my mom brought my kennel so I could just sit and watch the other dogs. I did get to smell some dogs and get close to some, that made my day. They laughed and played silly games. Then I got to meet this man in a suit and boots. Mommy had to take my picture with him. That was fun. Then we went to leave again and the water was falling again but a lot more. My mom made me tinkle in the rain. That was interesting. Then I was all wet like I just got out of the bath! Man I was pooped after that exciting adventure. We had a long drive home and I did really well. I actually fell asleep in the car. I think I am starting to get used to this car thing. Its not so scary. My mom said she will share with you soon my picture with that man.

The beginning

I wanted to start this blog earlier but things are crazy transitioning. My name is Silky, I am a golden retriever. I was born to my mommy Pebbles and my daddy Amador. I was born 9/5/2012, at least that is what my paperwork says! I obviously don't remember that!

So my life so far has been pretty interesting. At around 9 weeks old I was taken away from my other siblings and tossed in a crate with another puppy. That puppy was really fun to play with! Then we were put on this really big scary thing. It made really loud noises. Then some strange people took us off and brought us in this big empty room. Next thing I know there are about 5-6 people "ooh" and "aahing" at me and my travel partner. Then a really nice lady takes me out of the crate and loves and smooshes on me! Oh my I was so excited. I just cuddled right in. Then that nice lady puts me in a big thing with wheels on it and moves. They call it a car. Oh I was not fond of that at first. I was so nervous, I made a big mess of drool all over the floor of the car. The nice lady took me to a place she called "home". I like "home". There are 2 little people there. They are fun and so sweet. The little girl loves to cuddle and the little boy moves so fast! There is also another big person. I began to think the nice lady was my new mommy and the other big person is my new daddy and the little people are my brother and sister! Oh this was about to begin an exciting adventure!

Mommy can't take me to work yet. She tells me I have to get all my shots. She says she works at a vet where lots of sick puppies go and if I don't have all my shots I might get sick too. I am so thankful she is so kind to not let me get sick! But I have to stay in my crate most of the day. She comes home and takes me out and feeds me lunch so I forgive her ;) She gets so excited with me because I don't tinkle in my crate. I am such a good girl!!

I really dislike my leash that is stuck to the wall. Who thought of that anyways? I keep trying to pull it out but I just keep bouncing back. So mommy is trying to teach me to just relax over there. Its just really not as fun as running around the house!

There is also another dog here. He is old. He doesn't like to play much and mommy keeps telling me I can't nibble on him. I don't understand why not, that's how I used to play with the other puppies where I was born. Oh well, I am starting to get the hang of it, but I keep trying to sneak in a nibble here and there! I try to steal his toys too but mommy says that is not good either!

So this will be where I track my journey with my new mommy and family. I will tell you everything I get to do and what fun I have. I will tell you about my adventures and silly times. My mommy is going to take pictures of me too. I will share those.
